Covington Files Civil Suit Against Masvidal
Legal filings confirmed that Colby Covington has initiated a civil lawsuit against Jorge Masvidal, seeking damages for an altercation that occurred over four years ago.
The litigation centers on the events of March 21, 2022, when Masvidal reportedly confronted Covington outside Papi Steak in Miami Beach. This incident took place shortly after Covington secured a unanimous decision victory over Masvidal at UFC 272. While the criminal proceedings concluded in 2023 with Masvidal pleading guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge, Covington is now pursuing a separate civil case.
Covington’s legal representatives are pushing for a jury trial in Miami-Dade County, seeking a total payout exceeding $100,000. The lawsuit details a variety of physical, emotional, and financial grievances:
| Category | Details |
| Neurological and Dental Damage | The suit alleges that the assault resulted in a "brain injury" and a fractured tooth |
| Property Loss | A specific claim of $15,000 has been filed to cover the restoration of Covington’s Rolex watch |
| Psychological Distress | The filing introduces the concept of "loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life" |
| Economics | Covington contends that the physical after-effects of the encounter directly impacted his "ability to earn money" as a professional athlete |
