Frank Warren Wants Dubois Vs. Joshua – ‘I’d Watch That'

Frank Warren is ready to put Daniel Dubois in against Anthony Joshua.

Dubois is coming off an impressive win over Jarrell Miller on the ‘Day of Reckoning’ card in Saudi Arabia. Before the fight, there was a perception that a defeat for Dubois would end his hopes of securing bigger fights later down the line. He arrived into the fight with a loss to Oleksandr Uysk after being stopped in round nine.

The fight was clouded by controversy after Dubois’ punch in the fifth round was declared a low blow. That meant Usyk had over three minutes to recover after being dropped. Dubois was arguably deprived of the chance to become a unified heavyweight champion.

But his loss was questioned after suggestions he quit as the boxer got up once the count was over. The loss to Usyk was also preceded by a defeat to Joe Joyce, where Dubois took a knee. This created the perception that he quit in the most challenging moments. But Dubois silenced his critics after stopping Miller in round ten. Following the win, Dubois admitted he was questioning himself.

Dubois On Miller

"It really mattered tonight. I had to dig deep. [And] I came through it and I showed my heart. I had my dad screaming in my corner and I knew I had to go out there and work. [And] I had to prove it to myself that I was a real fighter and I could be a champion. I silenced the doubts tonight,” Dubois said

One of those big fights could be Joshua. The Brit is likely to face Filip Hrgovic next in an IBF title fight if the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is stripped, as is expected, due to their rematch clause. But if Dubois can work himself into a mandatory position of his own, then a Joshua fight could materialize.

It would be a big domestic clash against one of the up-and-coming heavyweights. Dubois is still only 26 and has yet to reach his prime. But he has been in the ring with big names, including Usyk and Joyce. And Warren was ready to match him up against the best.

Dubois Vs. AJ

“For me, [Dubois] could fight any of those guys in the top 10. Even AJ would be a good fight. I’d watch that all day long. I thought Daniel Dubois was brilliant. Absolutely magnificent. He proved to all his doubters that he does have heart in a tough, tough fight against a guy who is very good with his gamesmanship, was a tough, tough competitor and made him fight all the way,” Warren stated

The chances of Joshua facing Dubois are a lot closer than before. The ‘Day of Reckoning’ card showed that Warren and Hearn could come together to put on the biggest fights. If that translates to fights outside of Saudi Arabia, then that can only be good for boxing fans moving forward.
