Jon Jones Spars With Grappling Expert For Miocic, Bobby Green Recalls Hammering Strickland In Sparring

In some MMA news, Jon Jones has began training with grappling expert Gordon Ryan in the run up to his fight with Stipe Miocic.
The duo will square off at UFC 295 on November 12th, 2023, as Jones defends the title that he won against Ciryl Gane. The narrative heading into the fight is that both fighters could walk away from the sport if they secure a win.
Jones’ grappling has always been a key element of his strength. Meanwhile, Miocic has been one of the most gifted strikers. However, the decision to use Ryan suggests that Jones will aim to dominate on the ground.

Stipe Miocic has never been submitted in his entire pro career.

In response, this is what Jones had to say: "Meanwhile Stipe over there preparing for a boxing match," Jones
The tactics will be intriguing given that Miocic is a seasoned MMA fighter. And at the age of 41, he will be prepared for come what way.
The grappling tactics were successful against Gane as Jones managed to stop him in the first round via a submission. And yet, when it comes to Miocic, the MMA fighter has never submitted in the entirety of his career.
His four defeats have only come by way of three stoppages and a loss via a decision. Although Jones is the favorite, he is not taking Miocic lightly.
Jones On Miocic
"At this point, I still get really nervous, man. I have nightmares about my opponents. About every hour, Stipe Miocic will cross my mind. Stipe is a very capable athlete, and I think that I owe it to Stipe to give him that chance to fight the best fighter ever," Jones
Green On Strickland
Meanwhile, Bobby Green has recalled getting the better of Sean Strickland during some sparring sessions.
Strickland is a man in demand after having beaten Israel Adesanya in a shock result to win the middleweight title via a unanimous decision at UFC 293.
During the course of that process, Strickland walked down his opponent as Izzy had no answer to keep him at a distance. So much so that the American dropped Adesanya near the end of the first round in a dominant win. But for all of the plaudits that were coming his way, Green was not that impressed by what he had seen.
"Shout out to Strickland. A little backstory, my dad, I got a little white dad, he’s a black belt. He got his black belt from Sean’s coach. So, out of respect, because Sean was trying to have his MMA career go, we must have been 21, 22, he would call me to go over and spar with Sean. Sean was fighting at 185, I’m a 155’er. But, I would beat the dog shit out of him. Ask him to this day, he’ll say Bobby Green is a problem," Green
Strickland has yet to respond to those claims, which is understandable since has just become a middleweight champion. Not only that, but sparring has to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Fighters can have bad days or they may simply not want to show everything in the cage. In addition, there are always situations where sparring can be exaggerated. Regardless, the chances of the two fighting are slim given that they are friends.
Outside of that, Green has to focus on things closer to home. He is set to face Grant Dawson at UFC Vegas 80 after the latter beat Tony Ferguson. And provided that he overcomes him, then Green can back up those words against other fighters.
