Marcio Barbosa drops Dennis Buzukja with one-punch KO at UFC Winnipeg
Marcio Barbosa flattened Dennis Buzukja with a single left hook 80 seconds into their featherweight bout at UFC Winnipeg on Saturday night.
The Brazilian invited Buzukja to exchange in the pocket and connected clean with a left hook that dropped his opponent face-first onto the canvas at Canada Life Centre, per MMA Fighting. Referee intervention was immediate. Barbosa, 27, has now stopped five consecutive opponents inside the opening round, including his Contender Series appearance last August that earned him a UFC contract.
Barbosa promises featherweight title run after Winnipeg finish
“I visualized all of this,” Barbosa said afterward, according to MMA Fighting. “I’m such a dedicated fighter. I train so hard. I came in, I’m going to be a champion at this division. Wherever this hand goes, nobody is going to get up from it.”
The finish puts Barbosa on the shortlist of featherweight prospects worth tracking. MMA Mania reported the knockout marked Barbosa’s fastest work yet in the UFC and suggested a performance bonus could follow.
Buzukja dropped to 12-6 overall and 1-4 inside the octagon. After two failed Contender Series attempts before finally landing a UFC deal, the loss raises questions about his roster spot. Barbosa returns to Brazil with momentum and a highlight reel addition that should land him a ranked opponent by summer.
