The fight was meant to be for Foster’s full WBC belt, however, Fulton’s failure to make weight meant it was now an interim bout. Foster had reclaimed the WBC title in his last fight, avenging the loss to Robson Conceição. Meanwhile, Fulton had the chance to secure a title in a third weight class. Belts at 122 and 126 had put him in a prime position to make history. He had beaten Brandon Figueroa in a unanimous decision in his last fight to secure the WBC Featherweight Title, but he had no answer for Foster.
