Serrano Wants A Rematch With Taylor

Amanda Serrano is confident that a rematch with Katie Taylor will happen later down the line.

The pair faced each other for the first time on April 22nd, 2022, as Taylor won a controversial split decision at Madison Square Garden.

In the aftermath, Serrano and Taylor had scheduled a rematch for May, 2023, in Ireland. However, Serrano had to pull out as a result of an injury.

But rather than staying on the sidelines, Taylor decided to face Chantelle Cameron instead at 140 in an attempt to become undisputed at junior welterweight.

Taylor, however, came out second best as the talk turned towards where the Irishwoman goes next. But for Serrano, facing Taylor was a priority.

"I was out with friends in (Puerto Rico) watching Spence vs Crawford, and all I heard was, ‘When’s the Katie Taylor rematch?’” she said on social media.

"My team (at Most Valuable Promotions) will be working on that. We both have a fight scheduled, but I promise it will happen! (What) Puerto Rico asks, Puerto Rico gets," Serrano

However, Serrano must deal with her upcoming opponent next. She is set to face Heather Hardy on August 5th, 2023, as she puts her undisputed featherweight titles on the line.

Their first bout was all the way back in 2019, as Serrano beat Hardy by a unanimous decision. This time around, the expectation is much the same as the Puerto Rican is the heavy favorite.

Provided that she comes out unscathed, then Taylor must do the same to keep the hopes of a rematch alive. Serrano’s previous comments confirmed as much.

"I don’t think it’s a good fight — our rematch is definitely off the table (if Taylor loses again to Cameron). I don’t know what Katie’s gonna want to do after that, if she’s gonna retire, or — I don’t know. I know my career’s going to continue."

Therefore, Serrano and Taylor must continue to win to keep the fans interested in seeing a re-run. And there is no getting away from that.
