Ulberg Stops Procházka To Win Light Heavyweight Belt
Carlos Ulberg captured the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Title by knocking out Jiri Prochazka at 3:45 of the first round during UFC 327.
This was despite fighting through a knee injury suffered in the opening moments of the bout. Within the first 60 seconds, as Ulberg retreated to avoid an attack from Procházka. Replays showed the knee hyperextending as Ulberg planted to counter. He was immediately compromised, losing his lateral movement and stumbling.
Procházka sensed the vulnerability instantly, as he began a relentless attack, thudding low kicks into Ulberg’s leg. As Jiri leaned in with a heavy right hand, Ulberg unloaded a counter left hook that landed flush on the chin. Procházka went out cold before he hit the canvas. Ulberg followed his opponent to the floor, raining down three shots that forced the referee to stop the fight.
Post-Fight
"Thank you all for support. Just checking my jaw here at the hospital. Big apologies for my performance tonight. Still can’t understand my stupid mercy in the fight that cost me this fight. I would like to fight a rematch because that was my fight. That was my fight and I gave him this opportunity to catch me. Big apologies to everyone who supports me." It remains to be seen what the future of the 205," Prochazka said
"I blew out my knee, but I knew all I needed was that one shot and I ended up getting it. I knew Jiri would come forward and as soon as I landed my left hand, he’s gone. Now I’ve gotta sort this knee out. "It about getting those moments. He said he’d hunt me but you can’t hunt what you can’t kill," Ulberg stated
